We’re looking for our Forever Homes
Belle (female, 16 weeks, Tulsa) Adoption Pending!
Calling all gluttons for punishment, we’ve got ourselves a golden puppy! Meet Belle, a little spitfire in the making who likes to hang with the “big dogs” cause after all this little one will be one in no time. She is currently in a foster home honing her manners with humans and dogs alike–crate trained & well on her way to being potty-trained this girl is searching for a home where someone is home more often than not (puppy bladders can only hold so much). This girl (like ANY puppy) will require work/continued reinforcement in the basic manners arena, plenty of exercise and SUPERVISION as she blossoms into a “big girl”. If you think you’re up for the challenge and ready for ~13+ years of laughter, be sure to ask a volunteer about Belle!
Brandy (female, 6 years, OKC) Adopted!
The relocation of my parents to a retirement home left me & older sis Aubrey looking for a new home–I’m guessing we weren’t old enough to meet the age requirement. When multiples like my sis & I find their way to rescue, the volunteers do their best to keep us together as a bonded pair; however, life in the kennel waiting for that extra special family with double the love (and double the cash) to appear just isn’t fair. Soooo, with a heavy heart, my sis and I are willing to go our separate ways, but in the off chance that your family has room for two mature (read well-mannered) ladies, Aubrey & I are here waiting!
Buddy (male, 10 years, Tulsa)
Can’t a fellow catch a break? 10 years old and living with the only Buddy I ever knew and the apartment complex decides to update its weight restrictions for pets. I’m all for the “Biggest Loser” and making healthy choices, but there is no way GR like me is ever going to make the 30lb weight limit. So, with no grandfather clause allowing me to stay and much tears on the part of my Dad and myself, I was surrendered to rescue. Unlike the other pups here, I had a great home with a lot of love so my transition into rescue wasn’t a joyous one. I only hope someone out there is looking for model GR citizen that happens to have a few (ok, a lot) of gray hairs. I’m currently in a foster home (yippee!) where I’m keeping my house manners intact (think turn-key golden)!
Casper (male, 8 years, OKC)
“Pretty Boy Duke V Casper”…well my breeders got one thing right, I am a pretty boy–though with no hip, elbow, heart & eye clearances, I most certainly shouldn’t have been a repeat “Daddy”. Now that I’ve obtained my rescue status, my breeding days are becoming a distant past & I’m most certainly ready to be “just a pet”. I’m people oriented (as us goldens tend to be) and am a gentle boy who wants nothing more than to be at your side ready & waiting for pets/loves from you. I am also dog friendly, though do need to work on leaving “hugging” to the humans. As I wait for an adoptive family, I would love to be welcomed into a foster home to help hone my basic manners.
Cowboy (male, 6-7 years, Tulsa)
As the great, late John Wayne said, “Courage is being scared to death – and saddling up anyway.” Being a middle-aged, homeless sap could be a pretty scary situation, but thanks to the SGRR, I’ve got a safe haven that allows me to “Cowboy Up”. My vetting is complete & am anxiously waiting for the day that the volunteers here start humming “Happy Trails to You” (ME) so that I can ride off into the sunset with my forever family.
Daisy (female, 5 years, OKC)
A change in my mom’s living arrangements resulted in my surrender to rescue…which is a blessing in disguise cause I was an “outdoor doggie” & boy oh boy was it cold outside! I’ve heard tails of what it’s like to live on the other side of the sliding glass door & to say my interest is peaked is an understatement. I will need some help in the areas of potty-training as well as my basic manners, but us goldens are devoted companions who want to do nothing but please their humans which makes us quick learners. Right now I’m a bit unsure of other dogs as I haven’t been exposed to them since I was a little-bitty one so I would do best as an only child or with a family who was willing to work on my doggie socialization.
Duke (male, 11 years old, OKC) Adopted!
Talk about a blow to the old ego…being surrendered to the shelter at the ripe old age of 11! Looking at the bigger picture, it was the best thing they did for me cause I was neglected & in need of medical attention. It was touch & go, but I told the docs, I was nowhere near ready to visit the Rainbow Bridge. I’m happy to report that I’m a healthy “old man” looking for a warm place to rest my head & live out my twilight years, as you can see from my pic, I love a good romp in the snow and I love me some tennis balls. While I can’t promise you as many years as the wild & crazy youngsters here I can show you what unconditional love is all about. UPDATE: I am in a foster home with parents, skin siblings & two rambunctious, juvenile goldens!
Dusty (male, 12 years old, TULSA)
Will you just look at my smile? I’m Dusty a happy go lucky senior who needs a new home.
My owner couldn’t keep me any more so she asked these great people with SGRR to find my sister Misty and me a new home.My AKC papers say that I was born on July 3, 1997, so for an 12 year old I’m in pretty good shape. I’m a little on the wide side but that can be easily corrected with diet and exercise.I just want a home where I can lay my head at night and having a loving family to take care of me and I’ll give you lots of love back. I came from a home with cats, so like my sister Misty says I am certified “Cat Friendly”. I just love everyone, so please come and take a look at me I’m in Tulsa. (We Seniors are the easiest dogs to take care of!!!!!
Ella (female, 4-5 years, Tulsa)
I ended up at the shelter as a stray & to my surprise, no family came callin’. Is it just me or would you not notice a gorgeous gal like myself missing from your home? Well you know what they say, their loss will most definitely be your gain! I’m a lively gal who is quite the charmer–though what golden isn’t. Aside from a case of heartworms, I’m a healthy lady who is chomping at the bit to get into a home where I’ll be tended to & fussed over. As I am being treated for those yucky heartworms, I would love a foster home to recuperate in during my treatment.
Honey (female, 5 years, OKC)
Talk about a wild ride these last couple of months have been! I was surrendered along with my “husband” and 11 (yes 11) 5 day old puppies. I’m happy to report my guy & babies have all been placed in loving (permanent) homes & the docs here have put an end to my baby-making days. I’m more than ready to find my “forever” home & enjoys the perks of being a beloved “house dog”…no more backyards for me! I’m working on the potty-training, but I’m not 100%. I’m also a master garbage “getter-inner” & am skilled at counter-surfing (which us food devoted goldens can be). I’m not a bad girl, but a typical rescue that needs supervision, boundaries & positive reinforcement. Give me those with a neverending supply of belly-rubs & I’ll be your “golden child”. I am dog & cat friendly & absolutely love kids (though I can be a bit mouthy).
Hooper (male, 1 year, Tulsa)
Not even out of the puppy stage and I landed in doggie jail though probation with SGRR ain’t nothing to complain about. I am an Arkansan, so I’m going to need you guys to take it a little slower with the training, but I promise to replace my “woo pig sooie” with a hearty “boomer sooner” chant. I’m very much a pup and even if I didn’t have the razorback in me, us goldens as a breed are slow to mature–so for all those families wanting to experience the joys of puppyhood I promise to give you all the chewing, jumping, mouthing you want!
Grady (male, 18 mos, Tulsa) Adoption Pending
I’m a bit of wandering soul looking for a place to call home. Happy, healthy with energy to spare, I’m looking for an active family to grow old with. As I’m still a youngster, a basic manners course would make a great start to developing a lasting relationship with my new family. Despite not having a last name & family all of my own, I am a lucky boy working on my doggie manners in a foster home with other canine siblings.
Jake (male, 10 years, OKC)
I just hit the big 1-0 and am looking for a family to spend the second half of my life with. You might wonder what a great senior like myself could possibly do to get himself booted from the only house he ever knew. Well, here goes….”Hi. My name is Jake & I’m a digger”. The volunteers here tell me not to worry, as the cure to my addiction doesn’t cost a cent & is easy to implement–don’t leave me (or any golden) outside unattended cause we dig when we’re bored & lonely. I am dog & cat friendly so a playmate would be great. I’m reportedly potty-trained. Could you ask for an easier mellow fellow? I don’t think so!
Laker (male, 7 years, Tulsa)
I’ve had quite the journey…ended up in a shelter in Oklahoma, transferred to a rescue in Arkansas & then made my way back to Oklahoma by way of SGRR. I’m what you might consider a “special needs” boy as I have an old leg injury that the docs here are currently evaluating to see if I can regain use of it. I am forever grateful to my rescuers cause the “not so perfect” shelter dogs take a one-way trip to the Rainbow Bridge. Despite my bum leg, I’m mobile and get along just fine as a tripod. Looking past my leg, I am an otherwise healthy adult with the hallmark golden temperament. UPDATE: I’m in a foster home with a golden brother. On the medical front, I am recuperating from hip surgery with the hopes that I’ll regain use of my leg. For those wondering how the adoption fees are used, they go to needy pups like myself!
Libby (female, 6-7 years, Tulsa)
I know the cinderblock walls do little to highlight my sparkling eyes & I could use a “spa day” & quality kibble to restore the luster to my locks. But what I really want has nothing to do with outward appearances (all that can be fixed in time), I want my very own people to love me, people who will notice when I’m missing (from your knee cause that’s where this girl will be). I’m past the wild child stage, but a basic manners class would be a great way to forge a solid bond between my Mom & Dad & me.
Luke (male, 1 year, Tulsa)
Hey it’s me Lucky Luke…you might ask what’s so lucky about being an orphan, but I’m tucked safely in the rescue’s loving arms and thankfully am not bouncing around between those “flippers” on Craigs List. I was surrendered for being “too much”. Quite a number of us pups are purchased by unsuspecting families who watch movies like Air Bud or see the pics in LL Bean and expect us goldens to enter this world with manners intact, but just like a human baby, we need to loved, nurtured and shown how to live the golden way. Us puppers can be quite rambunctious if not given an outlet for our energy–we are of course from working lines and despite our beauty we weren’t bred to be couch potatoes! On the upside, we’re a people pleasing breed which means easy to train. I’m finishing up my vetting and am chomping at the bit to find my special family!
Maddie (female, 1 year, OKC)
My time was up at the shelter and despite my best to charm anyone strolling past my kennel, there were no takers and the people who were so infatuated with me as a puppy were no where to be found. Thankfully, I’m young, light blonde and female, which in the rescue world is the ultimate combination–not that potential adopters out there would be so shallow to choose a 10-12 year commitment on color & gender (wink wink). I’m still a youngster so I will need an active family that does not have any allergies to exercise–a tired puppy is a good puppy! I don’t want to waste another second behind bars, so please put in a good word for me with the volunteers. I’m currently in boarding & would benefit from a foster home to give me a jump start with basic manners.
Maddie (female, ~10 years, Tulsa)
My what I thought to be my “forever family” left me at the vet’s office with promises of travels abroad. The sticker shock for the airfare trumped any love or responsibility that they felt for me as they asked the clinic staff to lay me down for a “long sleep”. Thank goodness for the caring staff who convinced my owners to choose life & ultimately choose rescue. While I’m not 100% golden, my loving & forgiving nature most certainly is. I’m currently in boarding and would most assuredly appreciate a foster home as the volunteers here search out a family worthy of adopting a sweetie like me.
Moses (male, 4 years, OKC)
Name’s Moses & I’m quite the traveling man. I was surrendered to the shelter cause my owners were tired of me jumping the fence–my excuse that I was looking for the “Promise Land” (i.e. a home where I was welcomed INSIDE) fell on deaf ears. Thankfully the Animal Control Officer saw the potential in me & hooked me up with SGRR. I’m a typical youngster in need of some basic manners (easy-peasy) & have been dubbed a master ball fetcher (start warming up that pitching arm).
Quinn (male, 8-9 years old, OKC)
Hi, my name is Quinn, & if you’re open minded & have a big heart and NOT looking for the old cliche of the “perfect, young, beautiful blond, female golden retriever”, I could be the perfect 8-9 y/o guy for you. As the saying goes, “Old Gold is the Best Gold”. No siree, none of that jumping on people, tearing up stuff in the house, or acting wild and crazy for me. I’m ready to be your loyal companion and enjoy a quiet laid back life. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still full of energy & always up for a good game of fetch, but I also know how to appreciate down time & a little rest & relaxation. I am ready to be your one and only attention hog (no other pets for me, thank you very much!!) We “mature” gentlemen just don’t enjoy a bunch of those pesky furr babies begging for our attention and jumping on us. Please call and ask about me and come ready for a good game of fetch!!
Shaker (male, 2 years, Tulsa) Adopted!
A change of address for my parents meant one for me as well…just not the same one. Being the happy go lucky golden that I am, you won’t see me throwing a pity party, instead I’m ready to “get back out there” and with rescue’s assistance start interviewing for my next (and last) family. I love a good game of fetch and am already crate trained. Since I was not on a monthly heartworm preventative (as every dog in OK should be), the docs have to treat me for those nasty worms. As I go through my treatment, I would love a family to foster me and I’m sure once I’ve got the all clear, I’ll have already “wormed” my way into their hearts so we can upgrade the foster status to adoptive family!
Star (female, 6 years, Tulsa) Adopted!
I’m sitting here wishing on a shooting STAR, hoping for a forever family where forever means forever. My humans moved out of state and left me & my momma looking for a new home. We’re a bonded pair, but her health issues make it unlikely that we’ll be adopted out together–though if you’re willing, you could always adopt me and FOSTER her (*hint*hint*). In any case, I’m a mature young lady that would blend seamlessly into your home and of course your heart!
Sweet Pea (female, 1 year, OKC)
Not even out of the puppy stage and I landed in doggie jail though probation with SGRR ain’t nothing to complain about. I’m very much a pup–us goldens as a breed are slow to mature–so for all those families wanting to experience the joys of puppyhood I promise to give you all the chewing, jumping, mouthing you want!
Teddy (male, 8 mos, Tulsa)
Anybody looking for a cuddly Teddy Bear? That will be me…in a year or two once I can put some distance between me & puppyhood. After the death of my previous owner, an exuberant youngster running around the house became too much to manage for my “Mom”. I’ve already been through a puppy class and am looking to take it to the “next level” with my new (and knock on wood FOREVER) family. I was loved and most definitely want to be loved again, if you’ve got energy to chase after a youngster like me, then look no further & ask for TEDDY!
Willow (female, 3 years old, Tulsa) Adoption Pending
Howdy! Name’s Willow and like the Weeping Willow Tree, I’m looking to plant permanent roots with a forever family that won’t leave me weeping. Not a puppy but nowhere near a senior looking to nap all day, I’m looking for a home that promises regular games of fetch in the yard and walks around the block. UPDATE: I’m in a awesome foster home getting a jump start on the basics (crate training, manners & potty-training).
Winston (male, 7-8 years old, OKC)
Hello, my name is Winston, and as you can tell from my picture, I’m a mature, distinguished 7-8 year old fella. So, in doggie years, that puts me right smack in the middle of the “Puppy Boomer” or for you human types “Baby Boomer” generation. In fact I just received my AARP (Absolutely Adorable Redheaded Pooch) Membership, and I am ready and willing to start living the life of leisure as your loyal companion. We Boomers are still full of energy and understand that life really begins at 50!! Are you an “empty nester” looking for the perfect child who won’t ask to borrow your car, use your credit card, or stay out all night? Or, are you looking for someone to share your 30 minutes a day cardio walk? Then I’m your guy. All I ask in return is that you make me a member of the family and let me live inside where I can be safe and warm. I prefer to be an “only dog” where I can be your one-and-only and shower you with doggie kisses and become your life-long companion.
