The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together….. – Author Unknown

Brinkleigh (female, 9 years, OKC)

It’s kind of hard to put on a happy face due to my current health status, but please know that I’m one happy girl now that I’m receiving the medical care & attention that I so needed. Despite the shock value of my picture, the docs say I’ll recover & my golden locks will return–with time, love & good quality kibble. I know the cards are stacked against me right now due to my current appearance & age, but I’m hoping there is a family out there that is willing to place more emphasis on my personality than on my looks.

1431 Brinkleigh Update UPDATE: Here’s me after some tinder loving care from my foster family & my 5 cents a day medicine–amazing what a little effort can do for one of us goldens that appear to me a little “rough around the edges”. I am in a foster home with 2 crazy young goldens that I am tolerating well, along with some kitty siblings and a couple of teenage skin siblings. I do have a little arthritis settling in, but that doesn’t get in my way of snoozing my days away on the couch!

Sara #179

I was worried if I would know the right time to say goodbye to Sara, but I didn’t have to worry (you think I’d learn). Sara let us know loud and clear.

We took our beloved Sara this morning and stayed with her through the entire end. She went to the Bridge very peacefully. We will miss her very much. She was, without a doubt, the best dog I ever had.

Our vet was not in, but another wonderful vet helped us and gave us a copy of “The Rainbow Bridge”. I’ve always heard you all speak of this, but never knew what it really was. Now I know. Very comforting…. I look forward to meeting her there…

Thank you all so much for introducing us to her. She was a great friend…

Molly #231

I am sad to let you all know that Molly (formerly Mellie #231) went to the Rainbow Bridge. She had ehrlicea and after a hard fought battle with the help of our wonderful vets at Veterinary Associates in Tulsa, her little body just gave out.

Molly and I, along with her brother Zack (my first Golden for whom Molly was adopted), moved to Tulsa last year to open a pet boutique and bakery, the Dog Dish, with her new dad, Bill. Molly got to spend the last year of her life doing what she loved best – getting and giving love and eating all the treats she wanted. She was a sweet angel who never met a stranger and occasionally tried to get into our customers’ vehicles to go home with them if she happened to be outside with us. She was featured in several news stories, our advertisements and even threw out the first pitch at Bark in the Park, a Drillers’ game where people could bring their dogs (this was right after she left her mark on 3rd base, if you know what I mean).

About a month ago right before she became ill, we adopted another Golden, Chase, formally Rhett, from A.R.F. (It is our understanding that SGRR may have had some of Chase’s brothers and sisters or possibly his parents.) She immediately took Chase under her wing and showed him the ropes. Zack was not as eager to welcome Chase into our home and Molly would position herself between the two if Zack seemed “grouchy”. She played with Chase like a puppy herself until she got sick. She was instrumental in transitioning Chase into our home and the result is that Zack and Chase are now sleeping, eating and playing together, something that would not have happened without Molly.

She touched so many lives in so many ways and will be missed by all. Thanks to SGRR, we were blessed to have her for as long as we did.

Sincerely,

Shelli Holland (formerly Shelli Willis)
