Do you have room in your heart and your home for a Golden Oldie?
One of the most heart-wrenching things about rescue work is dealing with the seniors. These dogs usually come to us because some unexpected life-changing event has occurred in their former family’s life. Because they are in their twilight years, most prospective families don’t even consider them when choosing among the dogs available for adoption. Often they linger in the program for a considerable time waiting on a forever home.
Have you considered the advantages in adopting a Golden Oldie? These guys are great for someone looking for a mature, less active companion. They are happy with an ambling pace on a walk and more often than not would prefer to be curled up at your feet or better yet, next to you on the couch!
We have several of these gentle souls available. Here’s your opportunity to give a dog the best years of his life while at the same time receiving all the joy and love that only a Golden can give. Do you have room in your heart and your home for a Golden Oldie?

Here are our “special seniors”…(dogs over 9 years old)…
Casey (female, 10 years, OKC)
Hello there. My name is Casey and my owner had to move away and could not find a place that would allow a wonderful old gal like me. I really would like a place to lay my head and get an occasional belly scratch or two. I am really new to the Rescue so once they learn all about me, they will put that information on here for everyone to read.
Jake (male, 10 years, OKC)

I just hit the big 1-0 and am looking for a family to spend the second half of my life with. You might wonder what a great senior like myself could possibly do to get himself booted from the only house he ever knew. Well, here goes….”Hi. My name is Jake & I’m a digger”. The volunteers here tell me not to worry, as the cure to my addiction doesn’t cost a cent & is easy to implement–don’t leave me (or any golden) outside unattended cause we dig when we’re bored & lonely. I am dog & cat friendly so a playmate would be great. I’m reportedly potty-trained. Could you ask for an easier mellow fellow? I don’t think so! Update: I have been in a wonderful foster home for a few months now and they say I have never dug in their yard since they don’t leave me outside. I get along with their 2 other Goldens and cats they have. I am good on a leash and love to go for long walks. I also like to swim and play ball. My foster dad says I have the softest coat out there! So you see, I have been cured of the digging problem with little effort on the humans part.
Maddie (female, 10 years, OKC)
My what I thought to be my “forever family” left me at the vet’s office with promises of travels abroad. The sticker shock for the airfare trumped any love or responsibility that they felt for me as they asked the clinic staff to lay me down for a “long sleep”. Thank goodness for the caring staff who convinced my owners to choose life & ultimately choose rescue. While I’m not 100% golden, my loving & forgiving nature most certainly is. I’m currently in boarding and would most assuredly appreciate a foster home as the volunteers here search out a family worthy of adopting a sweetie like me.
Winston (male, 8-10 years old, OKC)
Hello, my name is Winston, and as you can tell from my picture, I'm a mature, distinguished 8-10 year old fella. So, in doggie years, that puts me right smack in the middle of the "Puppy Boomer" or for you human types "Baby Boomer" generation. In fact I just received my AARP (Absolutely Adorable Redheaded Pooch) Membership, and I am ready and willing to start living the life of leisure as your loyal companion. We Boomers are still full of energy and understand that life really begins at 50!! Are you an "empty nester" looking for the perfect child who won't ask to borrow your car, use your credit card, or stay out all night? Or, are you looking for someone to share your 30 minutes a day cardio walk? Then I'm your guy. All I ask in return is that you make me a member of the family and let me live inside where I can be safe and warm. I prefer to be an "only dog" where I can be your one-and-only and shower you with doggie kisses and become your life-long companion.
